POPSICLE!

About

Does your dad ever just stand there with the fridge door open?
Unsure of what to eat, but somehow hoping
if enough time passes just hanging about,
that the perfect little morsel’s gonna leap right out?
If so, you might want to warn him about what happened to my dad--
He went in search of just a bedtime snack.
But with no note left behind we’d no idea when he’d come back!

Praise for this book

Popsicle! " Uncle Bunkle is funny and quirky story. I truly laughed for whole book. Story is funny and illustration are funny too. I don't think it has any message but just innocent entertainment and laugh. I read to my grand child he was laughing crazy. I highly recommend it such that you can laugh

Funny and whimsical book, and quite original. I haven't read anything like it in the past. Some children will laugh and enjoy it, and some might find it a bit too eccentric.

Popsicle! " Uncle Bunkle was a funny type of satire; I had to read it twice to get the bigger picture. The second time I read it, I saw how clever the Author was. The illustrations are colorful and appear to be hand-drawn. I am not sure that there was a clear message, but it was an interesting read. The kid's dad was frozen in the freezer for a number of years.

This clever and quirky book is perfect for quirky humor lovers. The story begins with a relatable scene—Dad staring into the fridge—and spirals into a wildly imaginative adventure that kept both me and my kids hooked. The rhyming verse is sharp, funny, and easy to read aloud, while the underlying humor strikes a perfect balance between silly and smart. My children were laughing and guessing what might happen next on every page. It also opened fun conversations about imagination and family routines. A fantastic pick for families who enjoy stories with heart, humor, and a touch of mystery. I also appreciated the bilingual touch

This story has a lighthearted charm that makes it enjoyable to read from start to finish. There’s a playful energy throughout, yet it also leaves you with a warm, happy feeling. It’s the kind of book that’s fun to revisit and share with others.

Totally whacky and fun with unusual and interesting images.

A delightfully quirky rhyming tale where Dad’s fridge snack hunt turns into a wild adventure. Perfect for kids who enjoy offbeat humor, with playful verses that entertain adults too. The bilingual English-Spanish text adds extra charm, making it fun and educational for ESL learners in a lighthearted way.

The silliness and illustrations are wonderful. I love the embrace of being preposterous. That allows you to just enjoying reading it and giving yourself over to the story of the dad getting stuck in the freezer. I was surprised by the aging aspect. I only speak and read a little Spanish. So, it's so helpful to read the English and then glance down and pronounce the Spanish. It helps me learn.

A wonderfully weird, bilingual bedtime story! April 25, 2026
If you’ve ever caught yourself staring into an open fridge waiting for a snack to magically appear, this book takes that highly relatable habit to the most hilarious, absurd extreme. The story follows a dad who wanders into the freezer looking for a bedtime snack and gets lost, only to be discovered and thawed out by his kids years later as an old man. I read this with my son and daughter, and the sheer silliness of the premise had us giggling the whole way through. The book completely embraces being preposterous, and the wild, energetic illustrations perfectly match the chaotic joy of the story. The rhyming is clever and bouncy, making it a really fun read-aloud. One of the best bonuses is that it’s bilingual! Having both English and Spanish on the same page is a fantastic feature and makes it easy to pick up some new vocabulary together. A quick heads up: because it accommodates two languages, the text can be a bit small in certain spots. The plot is also undeniably eccentric, so it might not be for everyone. But if your family appreciates highly original, out-of-the-box humor, this Uncle Bunkle adventure is a delightfully wacky read!

A truly original children's book. The story is simple but fun, with a slightly surreal tone that makes it different from classic children's stories. The illustrations are very particular, colorful and almost “artistic”, they seem to be a mix between drawing and photography.

I also appreciated the presence of the bilingual text (English and Spanish), useful and interesting for those who want to combine reading and learning.

It is not the classic traditional book, but precisely for this reason it manages to stand out. Recommended for those looking for something creative and out of the box. Even if a bit too short
